Some of y'all are too comfortable being needlessly rude to strangers online.

My mom is a pretty extreme leftist, but I’m somehow so leftist that she’s skeptical of my views more often than not for just how radical they are. I guess I’ve had a bit too much internet or something.

I never feel more redpilled than when people say "I watch the Super Bowl for the commercials, I don't care about football." Like if you're watching for the halftime show, fair. Football fields are for band practice, after all. But like hooolllly shit talk about consumerism/sucking up to corporate. Talk about cultural capture. I think that everyone is capable of being good and that acting superior for sociopolitical issues is bad on many levels, but in that moment I have seen the glory and you all are sheeple. Sorry

I just debated with my stepdad about minimum wage work in the US.
I said, "Minimum wage should be a liveable wage."
He responded, "Why should someone fresh into a new job earn more money than I make?"
Immediately, SO many assumptions were made and SO many points were missed, but literally all I had to do was emphasize the fact that HE wasn't paid nearly enough and that he should be making way, WAY more money, and suddenly he was kinda on board. Or at least he didn't argue against it as passionately.
A few points to make:
1. He currently makes WAY more than the minimum wage AND the liveable wage, so his "point" was already nonsense.
2. He immediately made it clear that he doesn't actually care about what other people do or make, he only cares about himself, which is understandable on the surface, but it also makes anything else he says about other people's situations completely irrelevant because his stake in the matter is going to be entirely selfish no matter what.
3. He went on to say that people who work fast food "and stuff" have their place, but that they don't deserve a comfortable life until they work longer and harder at it. Literally said the words, "Why do they deserve a comfortable life?" And regardless of whether the question was rhetorical or not, I knew I wasn't going to be able to convince him.
I could have said so much about how he is exactly the kind of sadistic bastard that is making this country such a hellhole to live in, but I was raised to know how to manipulate people into calming down, so I just showered him with praise for how hard he works and we ended the conversation agreeing that billionaires and the government both suck ass and that people need to stop printing so much fucking money.

It's been very frustrating to come to terms with the fact that the left and the right are reflections of each other. The morals are as far apart as they can be, but both sides are dominated by people who lack the desire to think critically and examine their own beliefs. They use their own supposed superior morals (obviously i think "superior morals" on the right is total dogshit, but that's how they see it) to excuse themselves from mentally engaging with anything they don't immediately agree with, especially when that thing may challenge their beliefs. This is a recipe for stagnation and fails to affect anything except for your own self-superiority.
If you refuse to let yourself engage with something you don't agree with, how can you ever know you're right? You're only ever trying to understand the side of the story with which you already agree.
starting to hate how people use the word problematic. "don't support this person they're problematic" "dni if ur problematic" "they're literally problematic" what does problematic mean here? wtf is it supposed to convey? it's so goddamn vague and it doesn't tell me anything, it could literally mean either "has an opinion on pride flag discourse that i disagree with" or "actively grooming minors" and i wouldn't be able to tell which one was the intended meaning without asking for further information, which most of the time i'm probably not going to interact with these people more than once so i don't wanna go through the trouble of doing that, i hate it so much goddamnit.

who would be the "most responsible" candidate for the role of governor in the upcoming gubernatorial elections., we can examine some of the notable candidates and their qualifications for the two states holding gubernatorial elections in 2025: New Jersey and Virginia.
## New Jersey
Several candidates with diverse backgrounds are running for governor in New Jersey:
1. Josh Gottheimer: A U.S. Representative since 2017, Gottheimer co-chairs the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus and focuses on lowering the cost of living and cutting wasteful spending[3].

Win-WIN: Take the 2025 New Year's Depolarization Challenge
Consider adding this to your New Year's resolutions: depolarizing America. It's up to you and me!
Dear Fellow Americans, The political polarization in our country seems so unwieldy that common people like you and I can feel like there’s no way to change the situation. Happily, I’m here to say that’s not so. As the popular affirmation states, “We can only control TWO things in our lives: our attitude and our effort.” And our attitude and our effort prove to be very powerful. With that in…

This fall, wipe the slate clean and go back to your family for Thanksgiving! Stay out of frustrating political arguments but still win them all!
Inclusively transcend duality! See the big picture!
Finally! Respect and accept others, discuss gender, and let people pursue their own happiness without unnecessary knife fights!
This year at dinner, with a sly impish smile quivering at the corner of your mouth, you can break bread together and laugh and joke -- while underneath it all, hidden beneath your fingers, you are secretly using your new Unicorn corn holders!!
Glow in the euphoria of exercizing your freedom, drunk in the knowledge that you are subtly owning the MAGApotomians for a change!
Every dog will have its day, and this year, that day will be Thanksgiving!

"...than you possibly can be" Lets both refrain from making assumptions about the other. It isn't a competition for who is the most liberal/conservative/whatever.
"...darling" simply disrespectful for anyone to use in a debate and I'm sure you know that "darling".
You're antifa but seem to support authoritarian ideas. You think that there is any option other than "mob rule" the majority over the minority is democracy. That's literally what voting and making opinions heard on all topics means - it's the literal democratic process.
You think a majority supported set of agreed on human rights ISNT "mob mentality"?
"....Majority over minority. Like the kind your people represent" I'm sorry are you Pro-Genocide?
Your points are convoluted and I have no idea what point you're even attempting to make... No hate, just the lack of clear points or cohesive stance is counter productive to the discussion. You contradict yourself all over the place.
If the issue as you say is that people simply don't care to cure their ignorance then I was right and we (humanity) need to make the choice to actively care about eachother and fight against fascism.
We can both hold different ideas about how the govt should work. In fact - democracy only functions if we respect each other's right to hold differing ideas and priorities.
We are living a fascist government. There is not nuance on that. It's in plain sight, is concrete and direct in the very first weeks of it.
This is being played today, on train stations near and inside Buenos Aires. A message from the Ministry of Security, that it feels that is taken out of the most insidious dystopia-like sci-fi novel ever written.
In a quick translation: "The Ministry of Security informs: if you are going to exercise your right to protest, take into account that you can only do it in authorized places. Remember that blocking a street, avenue or road is a crime punishable by law. If you are extorted to attend a demonstration, remember that you can report it anonymously by calling 134. The Ministry of Human Capital informs that if you are a beneficiary of a social plan, no one can force you to block roads. If you comply with the law, you will keep your benefit. If you do not comply with the law and block the roads, you will not be paid. If you are forced to participate, you can anonymously denounce to the 134."
While this was on the stations, police were entering buses on the entrances for the capital, random buses, checking for people who could have some flag, bombo or any distinct feature that could show that was going to go to today's protest rally.
We are living a fascist government. There is no nuance, is concrete, is not even a month and they are showing the true face. A face that was there, for anyone that could see it. Is heartbreaking that so many didn't see it, and so many are actual fascists that wanted it.
#Antifa#Politics#Political Discussion#Democracy in action#Healthy Human Conversations#I dont know if this person is aguing in bad faith or not#im assuming they are as angry as they sound and need the vent#neither of us is anything but human#Top Surgery Recovery Day 4#My anxiety disorder hates me rn#horelyu#this feels like a troll#imma talk in good faith because there are some good philosophical questions that come from conflicting ideas

if i were to pick only three to add to my read list, i think i'd choose:
Divided: Racism, Medicine and Why We Need to Decolonise Healthcare by Annabel Sowemimo (Wellcome Collection/Profile)
Empire of Normality: Neurodiversity and Capitalism by Robert Chapman (Pluto)
Mad World: The Politics of Mental Health by Micha Frazer-Carroll (Pluto)
click thru to read the long list!
as a side note: due to pain/fatigue, etc., i don't get out much at all. so, i've only been in Lighthouse a couple of times over the years. but! the vibe was absolutely the best, and the online events i've attended have been enlightening.
i hope that you all have an equally awesome activist bookshop either where you live or at least within enough of a distance that it's accessible even a handful of times a year.
Extract:
The judges for the Bread and Roses Award for Radical Publishing are delighted to announce the 2024 longlist!

The books chosen this year cover a wide array of topics which are critical to the present political discussion in the UK. Among them are social inequality, Britain’s place in global political conflicts, health politics, the mental health impact of climate change, marginalised histories of identity, feminism for all, and the experience of forced displacement and refuge. [...]

@rhythmic-idealist By saying "bigot by nature" I meant more like he's not an evil person itself, he's not looking to cause harm on purpose (I'm not excusing his behaviour, I'm just looking at it from a critical stand point) but the fact that he refuses to acknowledge he might be wrong about some of the things he's said is bigot and his denial is causing harm. Still, we're talking about a very influential individual so now I agree he should receive a certain penalty from acting this way. I'm just dissapointed he let fame get to his head and his desperate attempt to remain relevant is just sad.
Thank you for your input. These latest additions to this post have changed my perception and I'll keep trying to check for more information.
HE'S BEING SENT TO POSTING SCHOOL
